As some of you may know, lots of foster dogs have passed through my home over the years! Time and again, I’ve watched dull, flaky coats transform into soft, glossy ones. Shedding eases significantly and itchy, irritated skin settles. When a dog feels better on the inside, grooming becomes far easier (and far more pleasant!) for everyone involved.

How Raw Feeding Supports Grooming

Nutrient-rich proteins: Raw diets provide high-quality, unprocessed proteins that help strengthen hair, reduce breakage, and support healthy regrowth.

Healthy fats and omega fatty acids: These nourish the skin and help maintain that lovely sheen. Many dogs show less dryness and itching once they’re comfortably settled on raw.

Vitamins and minerals: The fresh fruits and vegetables in balanced raw meals bring antioxidants and key micronutrients that improve coat texture and resilience.

Reduced shedding and dandruff: Shedding often decreases and flaking settles, making brushing simpler and quicker.

Improved overall wellbeing: A shiny, healthy coat is often the first outward sign that a dog is digesting food well, has more energy, and is generally thriving.

What This Means Day-to-Day

Easier brushing: Healthier fur tangles less and is far easier to manage.

Less odour: Balanced skin and natural oils mean dogs stay fresher between washes.

Fewer skin issues: With better nutrition, many dogs experience fewer hot spots, irritations, and sensitivities – something I’ve seen repeatedly in foster cases.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Transition gradually: Sudden dietary changes can upset digestion.

Choose quality (choose Raw Made Simple!): A raw diet must be properly balanced – not all products are created equal.

Practise good hygiene: Safe handling of raw meat is essential.

Every dog is unique: Most will benefit, but the degree of improvement varies from dog to dog.

In short, a balanced raw diet can do wonders for coat shine, skin health, and grooming ease – and after watching so many foster dogs flourish on raw over the years, it’s something I’m very passionate about!
